If you have lived exclusively in the United Kingdom you may not have had the opportunity to try coffee syrup, but it is very common in other parts of the world and is becoming more and more common all over the world as time goes on. What is Coffee Syrup?
So, you have heard of coffee syrup but you aren’t quite sure what it is, right? You are probably wondering how coffee would go on pancakes, but this isn’t at all the right image! Coffee syrup is sort of like chocolate syrup that you would use to make chocolate milk or put on ice cream, but it has the distinct flavor of coffee. This syrup is often used to make coffee milk, which is simply milk with this syrup in it making a delicious drink! This is the syrup that is usually used in most coffee cabinets or vending machines.
Coffee syrup has been around for a long time and has been in use since the 1930’s. The syrup was offered in drug stores and was used when it was mixed with left over coffee grounds, sugar, and milk, which is now known as coffee milk. The odd thing was, the syrup was originally marketed toward younger people, children even, who liked to drink the syrup in milk while their parents enjoyed their traditional cup of hot coffee! The idea was a good one, but it caught on with more than just the children as the adults started to figure out how good it was!
Over time the coffee syrup was offered in more stores and became common place in grocery stores. By the 1950’s the syrup was more heavily marketed in all areas of the world and was known as Coffee Time syrup and was promoted by well known faces such as Rudy Vallee.
Today there are many different brands of coffee syrup for you to choose from, some of them have different flavors, allowing you to enjoy the taste of coffee in your milk, on your ice cream, or to make coffee through your coffee cabinet or machine. The most popular brands today are Coffee Time, Autocrat, and Eclipse. As time goes on this syrup that was originally marketed toward children gets more popular and is finding new uses. Many people have found that the syrup is easy to cook with, makes a great addition to frostings and toppings for desserts.
